My obsession with old books and illustrations lead me to create the Public Domain Images part of my web site at Karen's Whimsy.

As that site expanded, I started to realize that I had a lot of religious books and bibles filled with amazing drawings and engravings. I decided that this was a special collection that should be shared with others. What better way to learn about and appreciate Christianity than through the illustrations of artists from the last century and a half?

In addition to making use of the the images found in these books, I have pulled and edited text from these sources to describe each image category.  Specifically, I have relied on these four books for information about the Bible:

• The Story of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation Told in Simple Language by Charles Foster, c. 1884.
• The Bible and its Story Taught by One Thousand Picture Lessons, Ten Volumes by Charles F. Horne and Julius Bewer, 1910.
• Bible Dictionary by William Smith, 1900.
• The Beautiful Story by J. W. Buel, assisted by Reverand T. Dewitt Talmage, 1887.

All the images on this site are available for free with minimal restrictions. Please see my Terms of Use for more details.
